From the Editor’s Desk

We need to talk.

No one wants to hear those four dreaded words: “We need to talk…” My take: they should! (Granted, I mean this more in the productive-community-dialogue sense than the imminent-break-up sense.) This month in the Harbus, we emphasize the beauty that comes with conversation.

First, we’re happy to launch “Between Two Classes,” an interview series exploring how HBS classmates see the world, and why. If you know someone with a story to share, please let us know.

Second, we’re in the thick of conference and trek season at HBS, and our proverbial hats go off to the student organizers who manage to orchestrate these events while definitely reading 100% of their cases. From decades-old annual staples to new launches focused on emerging industry trends, these convening moments are rich with opportunities to debate, learn, and argue.

Third, in an entirely-not-self-serving way, we ask how we can save a struggling news media industry. Amid a wave of cost-cutting, how can we maintain the breadth and quality of conversation sparked by a good article? One place to start: Read the Harbus, people! (Please.)

Fourth and finally, if you’re a crossword nerd like me, you’ll love the chance to cross, “What is Lehman Brothers’ favorite shape?” with, “What you may do to a case before class.” That’s right, it’s the inaugural HBS crossword!

I’m already three points over my one-point-per-comment allocation, so I’ll stop here to wish everyone a pleasant spring break. Whether you’re catching up on sleep or off seeing the world, I hope you enjoy a moment to decompress and celebrate how awesome you are. Extra room in the suitcase? Pack a copy of the Harbus and see who you can get talking.
