This is Franci (section H) and Al (section D) and we're the Co-Presidents of the African American Student Union (AASU). As many of you may know, on February 12, 1926, American historian Carter G. Woodson established Black History Week to celebrate the positive contributions made by people of African descent to our nation. For many years, this celebration took place during the second week of February, coinciding with the birthday of abolitionist Frederick Douglass. In 1976, the celebration of black history was expanded from a week to a month. The month of February is a time to reflect on a history that is often omitted from high school textbooks, recognize the contributions of the African American community to America’s vibrant culture, and to plan for our future. This February at HBS, we are celebrating with informative, fun and inclusive activities all month long. Our programming will recognize the rich heritage of African Americans throughout history and the amazing achievements of our alumni and current students. We hope to see you there!
