Here we go again!
The end of summer is always bittersweet. It’s bitter: because we can no longer spend weeks traveling the world or doing absolutely nothing, because soon we’ll have real responsibilities again, because we must return to our packed schedules, because of the shortening days and impending cold. It’s sweet: because it has been too long since we’ve seen our friends, because the start of something new (new school, new classes, new city, new clubs, new section) is always exhilarating, because we’re ready for the buzz of campus in the fall, because that feeling of limitless opportunity is greater here, at Harvard Business School, than anywhere else.
For us, it is undoubtedly more sweet than bitter. We are thrilled to return to Boston after a summer away, and excited to extend a warm welcome to both the new class of 2025 and the returning class of 2024. To our fellow ’24s – can you believe we’ve made it to our final year?! To the newbies in ’25 – time really does fly when you’re having fun. You’ll be in our shoes before you know it! We’re excited to introduce you to the Harbus, the independent student-run newspaper of Harvard Business School (since 1937). We tell the stories of our students, reporting monthly on everything from business trends and student startups to untold narratives and community news. For the two of us, storytelling has been an anchor at HBS – a way to make sense of a place that sometimes feels so unreal. Our hope is that you will find between these pages a similar sense of understanding that helps with navigating the highs and lows of business school.
Speaking of newness – the Harbus team has kept busy over the summer. New for us this semester is an updated website and, for the first time in a long time, a monthly newsletter. We are grateful to Sophia Scott (AB ’25) for her web design expertise and encourage you to visit our new site at harbus.org. You can sign up to receive articles via email each month at the bottom of that page.
We are also excited to introduce our new team of editors for the upcoming semester. They bring a range of fresh perspectives that you will find showcased in the pages of this kick-off issue: from a summary of how students plan to spend their time, to a primer on local politics, to deep dives into the current state of VC and startups, to laugh-out-loud satire, and more. Please help us to welcome (or welcome back) the ten members of our editorial board!
